Newtown City Hockey Club

A fantastic year for Newtown City Hockey Club.

Newtown City Hockey Club finished off a fantastic season with a wonderful day at the Hockey Geelong Grand Finals on September 12.  Congratulations to club members who were involved in the following achievements in the Hockey Geelong competition:

  • U11 Premiers – Newtown Maroon
  • U13 Premiers – Newtown Gold
  • U13 Runners Up – Newtown Maroon
  • U15 Premiers – Newtown White
  • U17 Premiers – Newtown Maroon
  • Division 2 Women Premiers – Newtown Maroon
  • Division 2 Men Premiers – Newtown Maroon
  • Division 2 Women Player of the Grand Final – Elese French
  • Division 2 Women Best and Fairest Division 2 – Peta Hanley
  • Division 1 Women Best and Fairest Division 2 – Phoebe Brazier
  • Most Improved Umpire – David Fitzgerald
  • John Stephenson Trophy – awarded to Liam Williamson.
  • President’s Trophy – awarded to Newtown City Hockey Club

The Club will now focus its attention on the upcoming summer hockey season.  The summer season provides a more relaxed atmosphere, and is an excellent opportunity for regular members to stay in touch over the “off” season, as well as a great starting point, both for players who are new to the game, and players who may be returning to the sport after a period of retirement.

The season begins in late October and runs through to early March, with a break for Christmas and school holidays.  Teams are available for:

  • Minkey/Under 10  - Mondays, Lloyd Reserve, Newtown, 6.00 to 7.00 p.m. 
  • U11/ U13/ U15/U17 - Mondays and Tuesdays, Stead Park, 5.30 - 9 p.m.   Ages are taken as at 1/1/09.
  • Mixed Senior Seven a side - Wednesdays at Stead Park, 6 to 8 pm.   This competition is usually for experienced players.
  • Mixed Family Seven a side - Fridays at Stead Park, 6 to 8 pm.   Teams in this competition include a mix of junior players, beginner senior players or those returning to the game, and some experienced players.

Inexperienced players are invited to join the “Come and Try Hockey” sessions which will be held at Lloyd Reserve, Newtown, from 5.30 to 6.30 pm on Monday October 12 and 19.  Attend one or both of these free sessions.  Equipment is provided.  Enquiries to Claire Barnes, 0417 015130.
